Strengthening Inland Empire Communities through Children’s Projects and Volunteer Work
Crime, gangs and violence are merely symptoms of a deeply rooted problem. By providing conducive communities and engaging opportunities for at risk youth, Reach Out can give new hope to at-risk youth by offering them healthy, enriching alternatives to choices that may be destructive to themselves and the community.
Children’s Programs
Children’s programs help replace the large gaps of free time in a child’s day – time which is sometimes spent experimenting with harmful behavior – with enriching activities, intimate relationships and supportive guidance. Instead of being exposed to drugs, alcohol and gangs, our mentoring programs let kids enjoy experiences that can help them cultivate productive interests by visiting museums, attending cultural events around Inland Empire and engaging in other children’s projects. Inland Empire youth programs include:
• Friday Night Live/Club Live – dedicated to reducing alcohol, tobacco and other drug use in high school and junior high students.
• Project ALERT – motivates youths in grades 7 and 8 to resist substance abuse
• Youth for Change – provides children and families with free and low cost counseling, parent support services and home visitation
• Health Careers Conference – promotes diversity in the healthcare industry and helps K-12 students pursue jobs in healthcare
Volunteer Work
Those that have a mentor, a compassionate teacher or community member to thank for their success often choose to pay it forward through volunteer work. There are numerous volunteer opportunities available to Inland Empire citizens who want to give back.
Volunteering is an excellent way to gain valuable experience, build positive relationships and have a hand in the betterment of the community. Volunteers are motivated by an urge to help others, but oftentimes, they find themselves benefitting just as fully from the experience.
