What we Provide

Food pantries

Reach Out partners with Riverside University Health System’s CalFresh Healthy Living branch to support healthy, active, and nourished lifestyles by teaching Inland Empire residents about good nutrition and active living, while also building partnerships in communities to make the healthy choice, the easy choice.

Pantry

Our CalFresh team provides support to food pantries in Jurupa Valley, Moreno Valley, and Corona. We offer the Nutrition Pantry Program, which assists in meeting the needs of the pantries, the staff, and the clients. The program provides various types of support, including enhancing the environment of the pantry, supplying recipe cards and nutrition education materials, finding sources for more variety and quality of food, and suggesting improvements to the flow of clients and the food distribution process.

Pantries that we work or have worked with include:

  • Trinity Baptist Church – Moreno Valley
  • Al-Rahma Food Bank – Moreno Valley
  • Rubidoux Spanish SDA Church – Jurupa Valley
  • Mission Village Senior Apartments – Jurupa Valley
  • St. Edwards Food Pantry – Corona
  • Corona Norco Settlement House – Corona

IOE—Nutrition Pathfinders
Reach Out’s CalFresh Healthy Living Team has introduced the Nutrition Pathfinders Program to the fourth-grade students of West Riverside Elementary and Mission Bell Elementary. This program consists of a series of lessons designed to teach the youth about nutrition, physical activity, and healthy lifestyle choices. Through the program, students learn about the importance of maintaining a healthy diet and being physically active. Additionally, lessons include a variety of engaging activities that help foster the critical thinking skills that students will need when making informed decisions about their health.

Social Media/Indirect Education

As part of Reach Out’s continued efforts to spread information and knowledge about Healthy Living, we create social media posts and videos about healthy recipes and physical activity. Posts are made twice a month on the Reach Out Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter pages (@wearereachout). These videos are fun and easy to make and taste good too! Check out a few of our videos below!

Don’t have time to watch a video? Don’t worry, we are at the library too! Our team created these Display Stands, one at Glen Avon Library, and Louis Robidoux Library in Jurupa Valley! Just like our social media videos, we have healthy recipes and information about physical activity! We also have coloring sheets for children! Be sure to check it out on your next visit to the library!

We offer Nutrition Education and Food Demos in-person too! Our team regularly visits different food pantries, schools, and senior centers to deliver quality education to their level of comfort. We choose healthy recipes to prep and demonstrate in front of a live audience. We also offer Nutrition Education, as a single lesson or series of lessons. Some popular lessons include “Re-Think Your Drink” which encourages people to drink water over sugary drinks.

Walk to School Day
In Partnership with the County of Riverside Public Health Systems, the Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station, and Jurupa Unified School District, one of the annual events held in Jurupa Valley is the International Walk to School Day in October! With the goals to promote physical activity, obesity prevention, public awareness of Safe Routes to School, and driving safety within the city, Reach Out focuses on local elementary schools and the planning of routes from a neighborhood location to walk together to the school. Kids who walk are provided with healthy snacks, water, other free giveaways, and earn steps toward the 100 Mile Club.

Tabling
If there is an opportunity to table at any special events, the CalFresh Team will be there! Whether at a Food Pantry distribution site, a school festival, fresh produce fairs, or park movie night, our CalFresh Team is in the community with giveaways, recipe cards, stickers, and more! You might even see us dressed up as Fruits and Vegetables! We love to talk about healthy living and would love to see you there!

Stencils and Murals
What better way to spread the message of eating healthy and staying active than to see it painted on the wall? We have completed many stenciling and mural projects across the city of Jurupa Valley. We would love to come to your school and paint a mural or stencil an activity on the playground.

Gardens
Throughout the City of Jurupa Valley, the CalFresh Team has participated in growing and helping with school and community gardens. Everyone can learn all about planting and gardening, and growing fruits and vegetables, such as watermelon, cucumbers, strawberries, zucchinis, and more! We could not do this work without the amazing team at the Gardens and Market Action Team at Healthy Jurupa Valley!
